The Palmbay Drive property was built by the government in the late 90’s for the USDA National Detector Dog Training Center.
All of the USDA border patrol dogs in the country were trained at this location and then flown with their handlers to the different ports of entry around the country.
The main building housed the offices and indoor training center where the dogs were trained on luggage in a simulated airport baggage claim area and postal belts.
The main kennel and exercise pens/areas provided plenty of space for exercise, vet rooms and diet rooms and the “ISO” (or isolation) kennel is where dogs spent a week or two in quarantine when traveling into the main kennel population.
In the post 9/11 environment, the USDA received funds to build a much larger facility in Newnan, Georgia where the present National Detector Dog Training Center resides.
